The Nantahala River is the most popular river in the North Carolina Smoky Mountains for rafting and kayaking and just incredible beauty. For the next eight miles, the Nantahala River runs 8 miles through the Nantahala Gorge and carries kayakers and rafters through one of the most scenic and exhilerating whitewater rafting trips in the North Carolina Mountains. The Nantahala River is pristine and cold, and the Class II and III rapids provide excitement and thrills for rafters of all experience levels. The Nantahala River is considered to be one of the oldest rivers in the Smoky Mountains. The Cherokees called it the river Nantahala which means land of the noon-day sun because the Nantahala Gorge is so deep that sun exposure is limited to when the sun is high overhead at noon. Experience the beauty and adventure of whitewater rafting or funyaking on the pristine, crystal clear, refreshingly cool Nantahala River. Your whitewater rafting adventure will take you through the world famous Nantahala Gorge where you will view the incredible beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains in all directions.
No Drought on the Nantahala River!
It may be a dry year, but that doesn't affect the Nantahala River. Releases from the Nantahla dam guarantee a full even water flow, 7 days a week.
