Mistletoe Meadows Christmas Tree Farm in Laurel Springs, won the honor in the National Christmas Tree contest for their 20-foot tall Fraser fir, 13 feet wide and weighing 2,000 pounds. It was cut down Friday November 23, 2007 and will be delivered Monday to the White House. This is the 10th Christmas tree in history that a North Carolina tree was chosen to be the official White House Christmas tree.
Fraser Firs are raised from seed at 4500 feet elevation. They are pyramid shaped and in the natural environment they can reach a maximum height of 80 feet. Fraser Firs are indigenous to the southern Appalachian Mountains so the cool weather and abundant rainfall are idea for their production.
The Fraser Fir is known as the Cadillac of Christmas trees because of its needle retention and strong boughs. Christmas-lovers all over have made the Fraser Fir a permanent part of their family traditions and when you buy a Christmas tree at home, you are probably buying a North Carolina Fraser Fir.

Go several miles, about half way to Lake Toxoway, and turn on Tennessee Creek Road. Go for one mile and turn on Wolf Mountain Road. Go for 2.5 miles to the farm.

From Sylva, head south on N.C 107. Go about 1.5 miles and take a left on Old Cullowhee Road. Go 1.5 miles and take left to Cane Creek Road. Go 1.5 miles look for field to the right of Creek Road.

9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; call ahead on weekdays. From Sylva, go south on N.C. 107. Go about a mile turn left on Cope Creek Road at the Hot Spot gas station. Go one mile and turn right on East Cope Creek. First drive on left.

Woodard Tree Farm 828-586-8577 9 a.m. to dark Monday through Saturday. Begin pre-tagging in October. From Sylva, head south on U.S. 441. Go about half way to Franklin. Turn on Pumpkin Town Road. Go 1.3 miles and look for farm.
Ty-Lyn Plantation 828-743-3899 - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Enjoy hot cider while picking out and cutting your own tree. Their Christmas trees range from 3-16 feet in height. From all four major roads into Cashiers, follow the Santa signs (picture above) to get to their Christmas tree plantation. While having your tree bailed to carry home, visit their wreath operation - all handmade to take with you.
Here at Ty-Lyn Plantation they have making award winning wreaths for over 9 years. They have presented the Governor of North Carolina with a wreath for his home in Raleigh, NC and won the Grand Champion Wreath in the North Carolina State Fair Contest with entries from all over the state.
Come visit us and stay the day, make it a family tradition to pick and cut your own tree from their fields. Take a ride in the 1950 Chevy Truck & 1951 Ford Fire Truck and have fun. The kids, and grown-ups, will love it!

Turn left onto Wellsgrove Road (look for sign that says Middle Grade School.) Take a right on Clarks Chapel Road. Go about three miles and take a left on Guffey Road. Tree farm on the left.

From Sylva, NC or Atlanta, GA: Hwy 23/74 East to exit 102B
to Maggie Valley/Lake Junaluska. Go approximately 1 mile. Turn left at
the traffic light onto US 19S/276N. Go approximately 2 miles. Turn right at
Quality Inn onto Hwy 276, go about 2 miles, turn left onto Hemphill Road.
Cross bridge and turn left immediately onto Boyd Farm Road. Follow paved
driveway to farm.
