NC Skiing - Snow Tubing - Snowboarding begins in early November at Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley
Cataloochee Ski Area opened for the ski season on November 7, 2007 at 1:00 PM.
Cross Country skiing and snowshoeing are available on the closed portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Cataloochee is now closed.
After a wonderful run for the 2007/2008 season with a record 130 days of Great Skiing and Riding in the Great Smokies! Tube World located in Maggie Valley across from Ghost Town in the Sky is also closed for the season. Don't forget that Ghost Town in the Sky will reopen on May 2. We want to thank each of you who have supported us by riding, skiing or tubing with us this season and we look forward to seeing each of you again next season. Mark your calendars and come November 1, anytime there is a snowmaking opportunity count on Cataloochee to begin snowmaking for the 2008/2009 season.

Plan your winter ski trip to the North Carolina Mountains in January, February and March. The North Carolina Mountains cabin is centrally located to skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing.
Skiing and snow tubing at Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley North Carolina begins early - sometimes the weekend before Thanksgiving as soon as the nights are cold enough to make snow. Cataloochee Ski Area is generally the earliest to open andthe latest to close. The North Carolina Mountains are the highest mountains east of the western Rockies, so temperatures are cold enough at the elevation of Cataloochee Ski Area to make snow. Due to the high elevation, Cataloochee even experiences natural snow fall.
Skiers with all levels of skills can enjoy the winter in the NC Mountains. Novice skiers, accomplished skiers, will benefit from skiing at Cataloochee. Lessons and equipment rentals are available for skiers. In addition, snowboarding and snow tubing are available for winter snow fun.

Cataloochee Ski Area, North Carolina's very first ski area which opened in 1962 is well known for its Great Skiing in the Great Smokies. One-mile high with a 740-foot vertical drop, Cataloochee Ski Area features 9 slopes and trails for the skiing skills of all skiers from novices to expert levels. Cataloochee Ski Area has rental shop and a ski school for skiing instruction for all ages and levels of skiing expertise. Night skiing and snowboarding are also featured on the slopes.

CATALOOCHEE SKI AREA TO OPEN FIRST IN THE EASTERN REGION
Maggie Valley, NC - This year's bragging rights for the first ski resort in the east to open for the season goes to Cataloochee Ski Area, located in the Great Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina. The southeast resort will be providing the first skiing and riding of the 2006/2007 season for winter snowsports enthusiasts beginning Saturday, November 4, when the slope ropes drop at 8:30 am This will be Cataloochee's earliest opening ever in its 46-year history, 15 days ahead of the 2005/2006 season opening.
