Plan your winter ski trip to the North Carolina Mountains in January, February and March.  The North Carolina Mountains cabin is centrally located to skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing.

Skiing and snow tubing at Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley North Carolina begins early - sometimes the weekend before Thanksgiving as soon as the nights are cold enough to make snow.  Cataloochee Ski Area is generally the earliest to open andthe latest to close.  The North Carolina Mountains are the highest mountains east of the western Rockies, so temperatures are cold enough at the elevation of Cataloochee Ski Area to make snow. Due to the high elevation, Cataloochee Ski Area often experiences natural snow fall.


Skiers with all levels of skills can enjoy the winter in the NC Mountains.   Novice skiers, accomplished skiers, will benefit from skiing at Cataloochee.  Lessons and equipment rentals are available for skiers.  In addition, snowboarding and snow tubing are available for winter snow fun.

Cataloochee Ski Area, North Carolina's very first ski area which opened in 1962 is well known for its Great Skiing in the Great Smokies. One-mile high with a 740-foot vertical drop, Cataloochee Ski Area features 14 slopes and trails for the skiing skills of all skiers from novices to expert levels.  Cataloochee Ski Area has rental shop and a ski school for skiing instruction for all ages and levels of skiing expertise. Night skiing and snowboarding are also featured on the slopes.
