DEPOTS IN BRYSON CITY AND DILLSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA

Trains are rolling out of Bryson City on Saturdays to the Nantahala Gorge for the next few weeks.

The Nantahala Gorge Excursion departs Bryson City at 10:30am and travels along the Tuckasegee River until it reaches the Little Tennessee River at Lake Fontana, and proceeds along the basin of the Gorge into the Nantahala National Forest. To the Cherokee, Nantahala means "land of the noon day sun". The scenic excursion provides a more detailed view of the mountains during the winter months. Upgraded seating to the Crown Coach and the Club Car is available.

The Gourmet Dinner Trains depart from Dillsboro at 7:00pm on Saturdays beginning on February 2nd. February 14th and 15th will be special Valentine's Day Dinner Trains, departing Dillsboro at 7:00pm. The Winter Dining Special Discount begins on February 17th continuing through March 31st. With the purchase of one dining ticket at regular fare, you get a second dining ticket at half price. The Tuckasegee River Excursions departing Dillsboro at 1:00pm will begin on March 1st, 2008.

They are also now taking reservations for the 2008 Polar Express™. If you missed out last year - now is the time to call! The Polar Express trips are very popular get reserved very early.

This is a special discount to NC residents on tickets reserved in advance. Present photo ID at depot. $5 off adult / $2 off child. Trains depart Bryson City Depot. Ticket price includes admission to the Smoky Mountain Trains Museum.


Peanuts - Easter Beagle -3/22
Departs from Dillsboro and follows the Tuckaseegee River to Bryson City where refreshments are served. During the layover, children can seek out bunnies carrying brightly colored eggs. Photo opportunities with Snoopy, the Easter Beagle. Ticket price includes admission to the Smoky Mountain Trains Museum.

Enjoy a romantic evening in beautifully restored dining cars. Exquisite cuisine, china, white tablecloths, and candlelight ambiance make a memory-filled evening ou as you travel on the train. The Little Engine That Could™ will arrive in Bryson City, for a return visit to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad May 16th-18th and 23rd-25th. Families can enjoy live music, face painting, old fashioned carnival games, storytelling, petting zoo, and the appearance of characters from the story.
Special Activities at the Bryson City Depot
Preparation at the Bryson City Depot is full steam ahead for the arrival of The Little Engine™. The special helpers to Santa for Polar Express™, Brant and Jamie, are busy building the old fashion carnival games for children to test their skills.

Games that will be available are: 1. Pick-Up-A-Duck, bottom of duck will be marked as to the prize given. 2. Toss the Hula Hoop, requires tossing the ring around a square table to get a prize. 3. Ring-A-Drink, winners will receive a coupon for a small soft drink at the Depot Cafe. 4. Football Throw, test skills at throwing a football through the tire rings. 5. Basketball Goal, basketball must be thrown through the goal the clown is holding. 6. Ring-The-Bell Strong Man Game, gives prize to children who make the bell ring. 7. Hit the Bottle, requires skill to throw ball and knock over the bottles. 8. Bouncy Train and Bouncy Slide, inflated games for children to enjoy.

Peanuts - The Great Pumpkin Patch Express

Meet Charlie Brown and Lucy and select your own pumpkin. Enjoy hayrides, music, story telling, hay bale maze, bouncy house, apple cider, peanuts gift shop, face painting, petting zoo and trick or treating! Wear your costumes.
In October as the leaves are turning and the pumpkins are ready to be carved, Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy visit the GSMR Pumpkin Patch. The first excursion departs the Dillsboro depot at 3:30 pm on October 12, 2007, with additional excursions to follow on October 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 & 31 departing at 3:30 pm.
Guests will be greeted by Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy at the Great Pumpkin Patch. Activites to be enjoyed at the Pumpkin Patch will be: campfire sing-a-longs, a coloring station, temporary tattoos, trick or treating, petting zoo and bouncy train. Children can navigate their way through a giant hay bale maze and enjoy a hay ride. Before boarding the train for the return trip each child will have the opportunity to select their own pumpkin to take home.
No ghosts or goblins on this tain adventure, just a lot of family fun and Happy Halloween Spirit!!

The Polar Express

 The Polar Express comes to life when the train departs Bryson city for a train ride to the North Pole. Read along with the magical story and meet Santa. The Polar Express features holiday caroling, hot cocoa, a special treat and a memento for the children.The Great Smoky Mountains Polar Express comes to life when the train departs the Bryson City depot for a fun-filled Christmas journey to the "North Pole". Guests on board will enjoy hot chocolate and treats and listen to thel story. Experience the fun and joy of watching the children's faces when the train arrives at our "North Pole," where Santa Claus will be waiting. Santa will board The Polar Express where he will greet each child and present them with a special memento. Holiday carols will be sung on the return trip to Bryson City.
