Elizabeth was born on 3 February 1953 in Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. She was the daughter of James Perry Smittle I and Colleen Carroll (McElroy) Brooks.[1]

Elizabeth died at the age of 60 on 2 November 2013 in Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. Cause: from cancer. Elizabeth was buried after 2 November 2013 in Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States.[1]

Harriet Elizabeth (Betsy) Smittle Tulsa World (OK) - Sunday, December 1, 2013 Harriet Elizabeth (Betsy) Smittle passed from this life early on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the age of 60. After bravely fighting a two-year battle with ovarian cancer, Betsy died peacefully in her homesurroundedbyherfamilyand a number of her devoted friends. Betsy was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 3, 1953, the daughter and third child of James Perry Smittle I and Colleen Carol (McElroy) Smittle. She spent her early childhood here in Tulsa until her family moved to Yukon, Oklahoma in 1966 where Betsy graduated from Yukon High School in 1971. After graduation, Betsy returned to Tulsa where she pursued a career as a musician. She played for many years in the Tulsa area, performing at various times with Anne Bell, Gus Hardin, Leon Russell, and Ronnie Dunn, to name only a few of the musicians with whom she shared the stage. According to Betsy, the highlight of her career was from 1990 to 1995 when she played bass guitar with her brother Garth Brooks, touring the country and performing before thousands. Betsy then signed to her own solo recording contract. She once told another one of her brothers, "When I was a teenager, playing my guitar up in my bedroom, I always dreamed that someday I would play in one of the biggest bands in the country. During those years with Garth, I got my wish!" Betsy loved and appreciated natural beauty in all its forms. She was a great lover of animals, especially dogs, and an avid gardener. Betsy was preceded in death by her father JimSmittle,herbrother Jerry Smittle, andher mom and dad, Colleen and Raymond Brooks. She is survived by her life partner, Valerie Meador of Tulsa, Oklahoma, her four brothers and their wives Jim and Teri Smittle of Owasso, Oklahoma, Mike and Mary Brooks of Newburg, Missouri, Kelly and LisaBrooks of Nashville, Tennessee, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood of Owasso, Oklahoma, twelve nieces and nephews, nineteen great nieces and nephews, and a host of loving family and friends. Research Notes

Accomplishment: in She is the half-sister of Country Singer Garth Brooks. Smittle was a bass guitar player who toured with Brooks for several years. While she had a music career of her own, she did spend five years performing with Garth Brooks in his band in the early 90's -- she played bass. She also sang backup vocals for musicians Gus Hardin and Ronnie Dunn. She also released a solo album entitled "Rough Around The Edges.".
