The Six Kalimas are a very important part of a Muslim’s belief and is more heavily taught in South Asian Countries like Pakistan when compared to the rest of the world. However, it is important for all Muslims everywhere to understand the 6 Kalimas as they teach the most basic and fundamental truths in Islam.
The 6 Kalimas are brief phrases or sentences summarizing some of the general and basic principles of Islam.
The 6 Kalimas are words related to the Islamic belief and faith, they are taken from some hadiths of the Prophet – PBUH.
Muslims in South Asia, such as India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, are those how to observe these 6 Kalimas. They learn and memorize them, and teach them to children from a young age.
The unanimous observation of the 6 Kalimas is one of the Islamic heritage in those countries.
1stkalma | First Kalma
Kalimat aṭ-Ṭayyibah (Word of Purity)
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ
“There is none worthy of worship except God (Allah) and Muhammad is the messenger of God.”
Transliteration: La ilaha illallahu muhammadur rasulullah.
اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں محمّدؐ اللہ کے رسول ہے
2ndkalma | Second Kalma
Kalimat Ash-Shahādah (Word of Testimony)
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لَّآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَہٗ لَاشَرِيْكَ لَہٗ وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهٗ وَرَسُولُہٗ
“I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and his Messenger.”
Ashhadu al-La Ilaha Ila Allah, Wa Ashhadu an-na Muhammadan Abduhu wa Rasuluhu.
میں گواہی دیتا ہو کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں وہ اکیلا ہے اسکا کوئی شریک نہیں اور میں گواہی دیتا ہو کہ محمد اسکے بندے اور رسول ہیں
3rdkalma | Third Kalma
Kalimat At-Tamjīd (Word of Majesty)
سُبْحَان اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُلِلّهِ وَلا إِلهَ إِلّااللّهُ وَاللّهُ أكْبَرُ وَلا حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيْم
“Glorying Allah, which is saying: Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and there is no might nor power except with God, the Exalted, the Great.”
Subhana Allah, wa Al-hamdu li Allah, wa la Ilaha Ila Allah, wa Allahu Akbar, wa la hawla wa la Quata ila bi-Allahi al-Alai al-Azeem.
اللہ کی ذات پاک ہے اور سب تعریفے اللہ کیلئے ہے اور اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور اللہ بہت بڑا ہے گناہو سے بچنے کی طاقت اور نیک کام کرنے کی توفیق نہیں مگر کی جانب سے جو بہت بلند اور عظمت والا ہے۔
4thkalma | Fourth Kalma
Kalimat At-Tawḥīd (Word of Oneness)
لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهٗ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهٗ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْىٖ وَ يُمِيْتُ وَ هُوَحَیٌّ لَّا يَمُوْتُ اَبَدًا اَبَدًاؕ ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْاِكْرَامِؕ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُؕ وَهُوَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شیْ ٍٔ قَدِیْرٌؕ
“None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, who has no partner. To Him belongs the dominion and to Him is the praise. He brings life and He causes death. In His Hand is all good, and He is Able to do all things”
Translitration: Lā ilāha illallāh waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, Lahu ‘l-mulku wa lahu ‘l-ḥamd, Yuḥyī wa yumīt, Biyadihi ‘l-khayr, wa huwa `alā kulli shay’in Qadīr.
اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں وہ اکیلا ہے اسکا کوئی شریک نہیں، اسی کی بادشاہی ہے اور اس کے لیے تمام تعریفے ہے۔ وہ زندہ کرتا ہے اور وہ مرواتا ہے۔ اور وہ ہمیشہ کیلئے زندہ ہے وہ مرے گا نہیں عظمت اور بزرگی والا ہے، بہتری اسی کے ہاتھ میں ہے اور ہر چیز پر قادر ہے۔
5thkalma | Fifth Kalma
Kalimat ʾIstighfār (Word of Penitence)
اَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهِ رَبِّىْ مِنْ كُلِ ذَنْۢبٍ اَذْنَبْتُهٗ عَمَدًا اَوْ خَطَا ًٔ سِرًّا اَوْ عَلَانِيَةً وَّاَتُوْبُ اِلَيْهِ مِنَ الذَّنْۢبِ الَّذِیْٓ اَعْلَمُ وَ مِنَ الذَّنْۢبِ الَّذِىْ لَآ اَعْلَمُ اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوْبِ وَ سَتَّارُ الْعُيُوْبِ و َغَفَّارُ الذُّنُوْبِ وَ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ اِلَّا بِاللهِ الْعَلِىِ الْعَظِيْمِؕ
“Asking for Forgiveness, which is saying: I ask forgiveness of Allah, my Lord, for every sin I committed intentionally or wrongly, secretly or openly. And I repent to Him from the sin that I know and from the sin that I do not know. You are the Knower of the unseen, the One who covers the mistakes, the Forgiver of sins, and there is no might or power except by Allah, the Most High, and the Most Great”.
Istaghfiru Allah Rabi min kuli dhanbin adhnabtuh, a’w khatai’n siran a’w ‘alanatin, wa atoob ilaihimin adh-anbi al-ladhi a’lam, wa min adh-anbi al-ladhi la a’lam, Inaka Anta Alaam al-ghuyoob, wa Sattaar al-‘uyoob, wa ghfaar al-dhunoob, wa la hawla wa la quwata ila bi Allahi al-Alai al-Azeem.
معافی مانگتا ہو اے میرے اللہ ہر گناہ سے جو میں نے جان بوجھ کر کی ہے یا بھول کر کی ہے ،در پردہ یا کھلم کھلا اور میں توبہ کرتا ہو اسکے حضور میں اس گناہ سے جو مجھے معلوم ہے اور اس گناہ سے جو مجھے معلوم نہیں،بے شک تو عیبوں کو جاننے والے اور عیبوں کو چھپانے والا ہے، اور گناہوں سے بخشنے والا ہے اور گناہوں سے بچنے کی طاقت اور نیک کام کرنے کی طاقت اللہ ہی کی طرف سے ہے۔ جو عالی شان اور عظمت والا ہے۔
6thKalma | Sixth Kalma
Kalimat Radd Al-Kufr (Word of Rejection of Disbelief)
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْٓ اَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ اَنْ اُشْرِكَ بِكَ شَيْئًا وَّاَنَآ اَعْلَمُ بِهٖ وَ اَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَآ اَعْلَمُ بِهٖ تُبْتُ عَنْهُ وَ تَبَرَّأْتُ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَ الشِّرْكِ وَ الْكِذْبِ وَ الْغِيْبَةِ وَ الْبِدْعَةِ وَ النَّمِيْمَةِ وَ الْفَوَاحِشِ وَ الْبُهْتَانِ وَ الْمَعَاصِىْ كُلِِّهَا وَ اَسْلَمْتُ وَ اَقُوْلُ لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُوْلُ اللهِؕ
“O Allah, I seek refuge with You from associating others with You while knowing. I seek Your forgiveness for that of which I do not know. I repented against that, I disavowed myself of disbelief, polytheism, lying, and sins, all of them. I submit myself to You and believe in You. I say: there is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah”.
Allahuma Ini a’uthu bika min an ushrika bika shi’an wa ana a’lamu bih, wa astaghfiruka lima la a’lamu bih, tubtu anhu, wa tabar’tu min al-kufri wa ash-shirki wa al-kazibi wa al-ma’asy kulaha. Aslamtu wa ‘aamantu wa aquul: la ilaha ila Allah, Muhammad rasulu Allah.
آے اللہ میں پناہ مانگتا ہو اس بات سے کہ میں کسی شے کو تیرا شریک بناو جان بوجھ کر،اور بخشش مانگتاہو میں تم سے اس کام کی جو میں جانتا نہیں ہواور میں نے اس سے توبہ کیا اور بیزار ہوا کفر سے، شرک سے، اور جھوٹ سے، اور غیبت سے، اور بدعت سے ، اور چغلی سے ، اور بے حیائی سے، اور بہتان سے اور تمام گناہو سے اور میں اسلام لایا اور میں کہتا ہوکہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور محمد اللہ کے رسول ہے۔
